Abstract:
Shao Yong obtained his Confucian accomplishments principally by his “effort of observing the world”. “Observing the world” was a Confucian doctrine of conducting oneself in society, aiming at the Confucian highest ideological ideal of the internal sage and external king, which was to be formally realized by experiencing the real happiness of nature, that is, “appiness and peace”. This effort of observing the world to enjoy a sagacious happiness and peace involved both Confucianist respect for nature and pursuit of the ideological ideal of the internal sage and external king, and showed their free and easy manner of conducting themselves in society.
