Abstract:
Soviet complex was a strong and deep emotion behind Mao Zedong’s thought of development after the founding of the People’s Republic. After the 1950’s Soviet enormous figure shrouded over Mao’s mind, making him love it deeply and hate it bitterly. This complex resulted from Soviet Union’s historical place in the world communist movement, its support to Chinese revolution and construction and China’s lack of theory and experience in socialist construction. Mao’s Soviet complex affected to a certain degree his calm consideration of China’s road of socialist construction, leading to several misjudgments and misdecisions. This complex remained until the reform and open-door policy when China developed its mature independent and self-reliant theory and took a China-characteristic road of socialist construction.
