Abstract:
It is of realistic referential significance to carry out the aims set by the Party’s 18th Congress to strongly carry on the construction of socialist cultural power to review and research Zhou Enlai’s cultural theory. Zhou’s cultural theory reveals very rich contents, consisting roughly of 12 subdivisions: a thorough interpretation of cultural concepts, an accurate presentation of the nature of culture, guidelines for cultural work to be raised in time, the agenda of cultural work to be properly determined, the position of cultural work to be clearly emphasized, the attitude to cultural work to be honestly expressed, the aims of cultural construction to be repeatedly elaborated, the relationship between cultural construction and economic construction to be dialectically analyzed, the relation between cultural criticism and succession to be deeply explained, a relatively early application of the concept of “advanced culture”, repeated call on learning strong characters from scholars, and constant emphasis on the Party’s leadership in cultural work. Therefore, not only an important part of Zhou’s thought but an organic component of Mao Zedong thought, Zhou Enlai’s cultural theory has become important ideological resources and elements of the theory of Chinacharacteristic socialism.
